Scottish MP Says Trump Not Welcome: ‘This Country Has No Place for Epstein’s Associates’

Donald Trump’s arrival in Scotland this week was anything but quiet. Greeted not by fanfare but by fury, the former U.S. president touched down at his luxury Turnberry golf resort amid a growing storm of public outrage, political condemnation, and disturbing reminders of his long-suspected ties to Jeffrey Epstein.

The sharpest blow came from Scottish Green Party co-leader Patrick Harvie, who issued a devastating statement that set social media on fire and sent a clear message to the world: Trump is not welcome here.

“Donald Trump does not deserve a warm welcome. He is a dangerous, fraudulent, misogynistic, racist, climate‑change denier,” Harvie said. “He brings with him the stench of corruption and abuse.”

Though Harvie never mentioned Epstein by name, the implication was crystal clear—and Scotland’s streets picked up the signal. Protesters in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Aberdeen held up signs reading “Scotland: Twinned With Epstein Island”, “No Room for Predators”, and “You’re Not Golfing Your Way Out of This One.” One banner displayed Epstein’s mugshot beside Trump’s grinning photo, captioned simply: “Rotten Company.”

Chants of “Lock him up!” and “Epstein’s buddy’s not welcome” echoed through the crowds. The demonstrations, organized by a coalition of feminist groups, environmental activists, and anti-fascist organizations, were some of the largest seen in Scotland this year.

But beyond the slogans and placards was a deeper fury—one that’s been building for years. Trump’s repeated visits to Scotland, where he owns multiple golf properties, have long been a point of contention. But in a post-Epstein, post-insurrection world, the optics have only gotten worse.

“This isn’t just about golf,” said one protester in Edinburgh. “It’s about power, corruption, and a man who has dodged accountability at every turn. Scotland shouldn’t be a photo op for that.”

Online, the backlash surged. Hashtags like #EpsteinIsland, #TrumpInScotland, and #NotWelcomeHere began trending across the UK within hours of Trump’s arrival. A viral video showed a group of young activists projecting the phrase “Trump = Epstein” onto the side of a historic building in downtown Glasgow. The footage racked up over 1.2 million views in a single night.

Even local officials joined in. Several MSPs publicly refused to attend any events involving Trump, while others used the moment to renew calls for deeper investigations into the financing of his Scottish properties—a controversy that’s dogged him for years and remains unresolved.

Meanwhile, the former president, known for his bombastic reactions, has so far remained silent on the protests. His official team released only a brief statement describing the trip as “a private visit focused on golf and hospitality.”

But for many Scots, that hospitality has run out.

As one viral tweet put it bluntly: “Trump didn’t just bring his clubs to Scotland. He brought the stench of Epstein with him. And we smell it loud and clear.”
